About Us

A Brief History of
Living Word Ministry

On May 16, 1998, a group of committed and concerned saints convened a meeting to determine their future as worshippers of the Most High God. After much discussion and prayerful deliberation, the decision was made to establish a new ministry with Elder Robert Rosborough as pastor. Subsequent meetings followed, during which the name “Living Word Ministry” was suggested by Elder Rosborough and unanimously accepted.

A site committee was appointed, and they suggested using the Ramada Inn located on West Pierson Road as a temporary site. Our upcoming services were announced, and our very first service as a congregation was held on Sunday, June 7, 1998, at 10:00 AM. On August 18, 1999, Living Word Ministry purchased Parkland Presbyterian Church, located at 2001 West Carpenter Road. The first service in our new edifice was held on Sunday, October 3, 1999.

Our founder, Elder Rosborough, served faithfully and diligently for more than ten years, even as his health declined. And on June 6, 2010 Pastor Rosborough went home to be with the Lord.

Our Pastor
Reverend Theodore K. Sims, Jr.

Reverend Theodore K. Sims, Jr., was born in South Carolina but raised in Detroit, Michigan. He attended Detroit public schools, the University of Michigan, and Wayne State University. He retired from the United States Postal Service as the Operations Manager for the east side of Detroit and Southfield, where he also mentored many employees throughout his career.

Rev. Sims is an ordained minister with a passion for helping others in need, as well as mentoring, uplifting, and developing the youth.  He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior as a young child and is always ready to share a word about the Lord. Rev. Sims was called into the ministry in 1998 under the leadership of Pastor Larry Smith of New St. Mark Missionary Church in Detroit, Michigan.  He received his ministry license in December 2000.  In 2004, he transitioned his membership to Mt. Sion Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, where he ministered under the leadership of Pastor Samuel Nettles.  Rev. Sims was officially ordained as a minister in 2006 and was appointed to the position of assistant to Pastor Nettles shortly after.

As a visionary, a leader, and a servant of God, Rev. Sims has been very active in the church.  One of his many assignments was being the Sunday teacher for the adult class.  He also initiated special programs for married couples and mentorship for young men.

Rev. Sims’ gifts and talents extend beyond the walls of the church.  He is also a gospel playwright and has produced and directed gospel stage plays and concerts.  As a means of giving back, he has sponsored several youth scholarship programs at his events.  One of his long-term goals is to sponsor an outreach program for young men.

Rev. Sims is married to Gwendolyn Sims, and their family consists of three daughters, one son, four grandchildren, and their pet Yorkshire, Oscar.  Rev. Sims is also passionate about cars, especially old-school and classic cars.  In fact, he loves cars so much that he decided to come out of retirement and work as a sales consultant at a Land Rover dealership.
