A Brief History of
Living Word Ministry

On May 16, 1998, a group of committed and concerned saints gathered in prayer and discussion to seek God’s direction for their future as worshippers of the Most High. After thoughtful deliberation, they were led to establish a new ministry, appointing Elder Robert Rosborough as the founding pastor.

In one of the early meetings, Elder Rosborough suggested the name Living Word Ministry, which was unanimously accepted by the group.

A site committee was soon formed and recommended the Ramada Inn on West Pierson Road as a temporary worship location. Word quickly spread and on Sunday, June 7, 1998, at 10:00 AM, Living Word Ministry held its very first service as a congregation.

God continued to bless the ministry. On August 18, 1999, the church purchased the former Parkland Presbyterian Church building, located at 2001 West Carpenter Road. The first service in this new sanctuary was held on Sunday, October 3, 1999.

Our beloved founder, Elder Rosborough, led the ministry with faith and dedication for more than a decade, even while facing declining health. On June 6, 2010, Pastor Rosborough transitioned to be with the Lord, leaving behind a lasting legacy of love, leadership, and service.

Our Pastor
Reverend Theodore K. Sims, Jr.

Reverend Theodore K. Sims, Jr., was born in South Carolina and raised in Detroit, Michigan, where he attended Detroit public schools before continuing his education at the University of Michigan and Wayne State University. He retired from the United States Postal Service after a distinguished career as Operations Manager for Detroit’s east side and Southfield, where he also mentored many employees throughout his career.

A devoted man of faith, Rev. Sims accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior as a young child and has remained steadfast in his calling to serve. He was called into the ministry in 1998 under the leadership of Pastor Larry Smith at New St. Mark Missionary Church in Detroit, Michigan.  He received his ministry license in December 2000, and in 2004, he transitioned his membership to Mt. Sion Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, where he ministered under the leadership of Pastor Samuel Nettles.  Rev. Sims was officially ordained in 2006 and was soon appointed as assistant to Pastor Nettles.

Rev. Sims has been a visionary leader with a heart for outreach and a passion for youth development. At Mt. Sion, he served faithfully, including teaching the adult Sunday school class and launching initiatives such as special programs for married couples and mentorship for young men.

His ministry extends beyond the church walls.  Rev. Sims is a gospel playwright who has produced and directed numerous gospel stage plays and concerts.  Through these events, he has sponsored several youth scholarship programs, using his talents to uplift and invest in the next generation.  One of his long-term goals is to establish a formal outreach program for young men.

In  December 2023, Rev. Sims was called to serve as the Pastor of Living Word Ministry. His leadership, compassion, and commitment to God’s Word are shaping a ministry grounded in service, spiritual growth, and community impact.

Rev. Sims is married to Gwendolyn Sims. Together, they have three daughters, one son, and four grandchildren.  A lifelong car enthusiast–especially of old-school and classic cars–Rev. Sims recently came out of retirement to work as a sales consultant at a Land Rover dealership, combining his love for automobiles with his gift for connecting with people.
